At least nine people have died, and several others are missing. A yellow alert for heavy rain was issued before the incident.

Survivors reported that life jackets were not distributed before the boat set sail. The Madhya Pradesh government announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for each deceased victim.

The cruise capsized around 6 PM. Divers recovered five bodies by Friday evening, with five people still unaccounted for.

The boat was operated by the MP Tourism Department and had been in service since 2006. Some survivors claimed the pilot and crew abandoned ship before it capsized.

A high-level investigation committee has been formed to probe the incident. Delays in rescue operations may have cost lives.

Rajesh Soni, a survivor, stated, “Despite that the boat was allowed to operate. It is a major lapse.” Another survivor, Roshan Anand Verma, said, “The weather was clear when we boarded. But as the boat reached mid-dam, the skies turned suddenly.”

Officials have not confirmed the exact number of missing persons as reports vary. The cause of the capsizing is still under investigation.
