The Election Commission of India will publish the first supplementary voter list under the SIR process today in West Bengal. This development comes amidst ongoing controversies regarding voter exclusions.
Previously, there were significant concerns about pending records. A total of 27 lakh pending voter records have now been settled, with about 2 lakh names processed daily.
Voters can appeal online via the ECI Net app or offline at district or sub-divisional offices if they have objections to the list. To facilitate this, 19 appeal tribunals have been established across 23 districts following Supreme Court directives.
Meanwhile, the final electoral rolls for Tamil Nadu show a notable drop in voter count. The previous count was 6.41 crore, which has decreased to 5.67 crore.
The largest constituency in Chennai district is Shozhinganallur with 5,36,991 electors. In contrast, Thiruvallur district has the highest number of electors at 31,57,413 voters. Ariyalur district has the minimum number of electors with 5,22,954 voters.
Archana Patnaik stated that anyone can check their names on the website. The state government has issued directives to district magistrates for crowd-control measures.
