The MIC Cup 2026 is gearing up to be a thrilling showcase of youth talent, featuring 52 teams from around the globe. Among them, Minerva FC stands out as the sole representative from India, marking a significant milestone for Indian football.
Minerva FC, based in Mohali, Punjab, has drawn into Group B alongside Boca OC, Kaptiva Sports Academy, and EF Santa Ana. The team’s first match is set for April 1, 2026, against Boca OC, with kick-off at 9:30 PM IST. This tournament is often dubbed the Junior World Cup, and it has previously seen legends like Lionel Messi and Neymar grace its fields.
Ranjit Bajaj, the club’s owner, expressed the challenges faced in preparation, stating, “The entire process was very difficult. Initially, visas got rejected, and we thought our dreams would be shattered.” Despite these hurdles, the team arrived in Spain on March 25, ready to compete.
With 52 teams competing for one trophy, the stakes are high. Minerva FC’s participation is not just about football; it represents a larger dream for Indian sports. Tony Huidrom, a key figure in the club, emphasized, “These tournaments are about the whole Indian dream.”
The financial aspect of this journey has also been significant. The club raised 45 lakhs through crowdfunding and took a personal loan of 2 crores to support their participation. They hope to raise an additional 15 lakhs to cover further expenses.
Matches will be live-streamed on the Minerva Academy YouTube channel, allowing fans back home to follow their journey. Ranjit Bajaj noted, “If our players have to reach that level, they need to compete in these tournaments.”
As the tournament approaches, excitement builds among players and supporters alike. Observers are eager to see how Minerva FC will perform against international competition, hoping for a strong showing that could inspire future generations of Indian footballers. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact format of the knockout stages, but the anticipation continues to grow.
