The JEE Main exam is one of the largest engineering entrance tests in India. On April 11, 2026, the National Testing Agency (NTA) released the provisional answer key for the JEE Main 2026 Session 2, following the exam conducted from April 2 to April 8, 2026.
Candidates can now access their response sheets and question papers to evaluate their performance. With around 11.23 lakh candidates participating in this computer-based test (CBT), the stakes are high.
The exam was held in 566 examination centres across 304 cities in India and 14 cities abroad. Students are voicing their frustrations, with one stating, “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?? RELEASE THE CORRECT ANS KEY ASAP AND ISSUE AND APOLOGY REGARDING THE MENTAL TORTURE YOU HAVE GIVEN TO THIS SHIFT CHILDREN.”
In light of reported discrepancies, candidates can challenge the provisional answer key for a fee of ₹200 per question. However, NTA has advised students to wait for clarification regarding issues in the Chemistry section before submitting objections.
NTA has also begun sharing exam-related information through social media, aiming to keep students informed. “Students can now receive real-time updates, exam alerts and all essential information in one place,” said an NTA spokesperson.
The final answer key is expected to be released on April 20, 2026. Candidates should analyze their responses and raise objections if necessary, but they must provide supporting documents for justification. Importantly, the fee for challenging the answer key is non-refundable, even if the challenge is accepted.
NTA expressed regret over the inconvenience caused, with officials stating, “This discrepancy cannot be dismissed with just an apology from NTA. Accountability must be ensured.” Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact nature of discrepancies in the Chemistry exam.
