Petrol News: Gujarat Faces Panic Buying Amid Rumors

Recent operational changes in fuel distribution have caused disruptions in Gujarat, leading to rumors of a fuel shortage. This has triggered panic buying at petrol pumps across the state, with families rushing to refill their tanks.

The Gujarat government has stepped in, assuring citizens that there is sufficient stock of petrol and diesel available. “Sufficient quantities of petrol and diesel are available at all petrol pumps in the state as per requirement,” stated Mona Khandhar, a government spokesperson.

Indian Oil Corporation confirmed that supplies to retail outlets are continuing smoothly, despite the surge in demand. However, some petrol pumps have imposed temporary rationing, limiting two-wheelers to a cap of 200 rupees per fill-up.

Dealers have reported that operational changes have led to disruptions in fuel distribution. Mehul Patel, a dealer, explained, “Earlier, dealers would pay after receiving fuel deliveries. Now, payments have to be made in advance as companies require liquidity.” This shift has affected replenishment cycles at some petrol stations.

In response to the situation, the state government has warned that legal action will be taken against dealers who keep pumps closed despite having stock. Citizens have been urged not to panic or queue at petrol pumps, as officials maintain that there is no fuel shortage in Gujarat and none is expected in the future.

“At one point, families were calling relatives, asking them to rush and refill tanks,” recounted a dealer, highlighting the extent of the panic. The Federation of Gujarat Petroleum Dealers Association has also echoed the government’s reassurances.

As the situation develops, observers are keeping a close eye on fuel distribution and dealer compliance with government directives. The state government continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure that adequate fuel supply is maintained.

For now, residents are advised to remain calm and avoid unnecessary panic buying, as the government and fuel suppliers work to stabilize the situation.
