Cristiano Ronaldo has been ruled out of Portugal FC’s squad for their upcoming friendlies against Mexico and the United States due to a right hamstring injury. The injury occurred on February 28 while he was playing for Al Nassr.
Portugal’s squad for the March friendlies consists of 27 players, with Ronaldo’s absence being a significant blow. Coach Roberto Martínez confirmed that Ronaldo’s recovery is expected within one to two weeks, stating, “It’s a minor muscle injury. We think he can be back in a week or two. Everything Cristiano has done physically this season shows he’s in great shape.”
Portugal will face Mexico at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on March 28 and then take on the United States on March 31. These matches are crucial as they prepare for future competitions.
In a broader context, Portugal has recently secured sixth place in the UEFA rankings, which allows them three representatives in the Champions League for the 2027/28 season. This achievement is bolstered by FC Porto’s recent victory, contributing to Portugal’s record UEFA ranking points this season, totaling 18,900.
Previously, Portugal’s record for UEFA ranking points stood at 18,800. The national team continues to build on its strong reputation in international football, with Ronaldo being the all-time leading international scorer for Portugal, boasting 143 goals.
Meanwhile, former Portuguese age representative Geraldes has joined Seoul E-Land FC, expressing his enthusiasm: “I’m happy to join a great team called Seoul E-Land. The only goal is to help the team get promoted.”
As Portugal prepares for the friendlies, the absence of Ronaldo will be felt, but the squad remains strong with talents like Gonçalo Guedes, Bruno Fernandes, and João Félix ready to step up.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further updates on Ronaldo’s condition as the team gears up for their matches.
