Smart Electricity

Consumers in Uttar Pradesh will now have 15 days to recharge their prepaid smart meters. This change allows them to avoid rushing for recharges. Previously, consumers faced power cuts when their balance ran out.

Key changes:

  • Prepaid smart meters will function like postpaid ones.
  • Consumers will receive a monthly bill and have 15 days for payment.
  • Outstanding bills up to April 30 can be paid in 10 installments.
  • Bills will account for electricity consumption from the first to the last day of each month.
  • Bills will be sent directly to mobile phones via SMS and WhatsApp.
  • Consumers can register complaints on the 1912 portal.

The government has decided to set up special camps to resolve issues related to smart meters and billing. Strict directives regarding electricity supply have also been issued.

Energy Minister A.K. Sharma stated, “This step is taken keeping consumer convenience in mind.” He added, “Now the billing system will be easier, and people will receive timely bill information.”
