Sony PS5 Pro Price Increase Announced

The numbers

Sony has officially announced a price increase for the PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal, effective April 2, 2026. The PS5 Pro will now retail for $899.99 in the United States, while the standard PS5 will see its price rise to $649.99.

Isabelle Tomatis, a spokesperson for Sony, stated, “With continued pressures in the global economic landscape, we’ve made the decision to increase the prices of PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player globally.” This move comes as the company grapples with rising production costs and sustained global demand for its gaming consoles.

The price increase applies to both disc and digital editions of the PS5, with the digital version now priced at $599.99. Additionally, the PlayStation Portal will cost $249.99 in the U.S. after the adjustment. Similar price hikes will occur across major regions, including North America, Europe, and the UK.

In the UK, the PS5 will now be priced at £569.99, while the PS5 Pro will retail for £789.99. In Europe, the PS5 will cost €649.99. This marks a significant adjustment for gamers who have already invested in the PlayStation ecosystem.

Historically, this is not the first time Sony has raised prices for its flagship console. The company last hiked the price of the PS5 in the U.S. in August 2025, reflecting ongoing economic pressures. Tomatis acknowledged the impact of these changes, saying, “We know that price changes impact our community, and after careful evaluation, we found this was a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide.”

Industry analyst Mat Piscatella noted, “Gaming is trending towards becoming a hobby focused on high-earners,” suggesting that the rising costs may further segment the gaming community. As the price of entry increases, it may limit access for casual gamers.

While the price of PlayStation Plus memberships and accessories remains unchanged for now, the overall cost of joining the PlayStation ecosystem has increased due to the price rise. Observers are keenly watching how this will affect sales and consumer sentiment in the coming months. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any future price adjustments for additional products.
