The Samagra Shiksha Assam (SSA) is set to enhance foundational skills for students in Meghalaya while also improving teacher financial stability. The initiative includes the ‘Teaching at the Right Level’ (TaRL) program for students in Classes 3 to 5.
Key milestones:
- Baseline assessments for Classes 3 to 5 must be completed by May 5, 2026.
- Midline assessments are due by June 30, 2026.
- Endline assessments must occur by February 25, 2027.
Schools are required to upload students’ learning achievement data to Shiksha Setu after each assessment. Key resource persons will provide online orientation sessions for teachers in phases.
The Chief Minister of Meghalaya emphasized that the financial impact of the SSA’s structured pay framework cannot be measured solely in monetary terms. He highlighted that the initiative has brought smiles to approximately 23,000 teachers and potentially 100,000 family members.
He stated, “For me personally, this may be one of the most satisfying days in the last many years of working for the people and serving the people.” The SSA collaborates with Pratham Education Foundation to improve reading and arithmetic skills among students.
The focus on foundational skills aims to address long-standing educational challenges in Meghalaya. However, officials have yet to confirm all details regarding implementation timelines and resource allocation.
