STMicroelectronics has officially launched its STM32 microcontrollers in China, with the first batch produced entirely within the country. This move marks a significant milestone in the localization of semiconductor manufacturing.
The STM32H7 series kicks off the high-performance range of microcontrollers, with mass production already underway. STMicroelectronics has established a fully localized supply chain, enhancing its commitment to the Chinese market.
Henry Cao, a representative from STMicroelectronics, emphasized, “Bringing STM32 MCUs to mass production in China is a core commitment of ST to its Chinese customers.” This initiative aligns with the company’s strategy to meet the growing demand for microcontrollers in various sectors.
The STM32 product portfolio is diverse, featuring high performance, low power consumption, real-time control, DSP capabilities, and connectivity options. These microcontrollers are integral to numerous applications, including industrial systems, home appliances, automation, motor control, medical devices, and consumer electronics.
STMicroelectronics anticipates that its revenue from data centers will “far exceed” $1 billion next year, showcasing the company’s growth trajectory in this sector. The company currently collaborates with 200,000 customers and boasts a team of 48,000 creators and makers.
Utilizing 40nm technology for manufacturing, STMicroelectronics is positioning itself as a leader in the industry. The company has become the first global semiconductor firm with a dual supply chain, enhancing its resilience and operational efficiency.
Looking ahead, mass production of additional STM32 families is planned for 2026, further expanding the company’s offerings in the microcontroller market. As the STM32 continues to hold a significant position in the global MCU landscape, observers are keen to see how this localization effort will impact the broader semiconductor industry.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact timeline for the rollout of additional product lines, but the momentum is clear as STMicroelectronics solidifies its presence in China.
