The Indian stock market is experiencing high volatility amid the ongoing US-Israeli war with Iran. In light of this, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed on March 26 due to Ram Navami. Trading will resume on both exchanges on March 27.
Additionally, the Multi Commodity Exchange of India will have a partial closure, with the commodity derivatives segment remaining closed during the morning session on March 26 but resuming trading in the evening.
2026 is set to see a total of 16 stock market holidays, with three already passed this year. The next holiday after March 26 will be on March 31 for Mahavir Jayanti, followed by another closure on April 3 for Good Friday.
Other notable holidays include April 14 for Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti, May 1 for Maharashtra Day, and May 28 for Bakri Eid. The markets will also close on June 26 for Muharram and October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti. The final market holiday of 2026 will be observed on December 25 for Christmas.
Despite these hurdles, the P/E ratio of the Nifty 50 stands at 20x, indicating ongoing investor interest. Observers are keenly watching how the market will respond after the upcoming holidays.
