As the political landscape heats up in Tamil Nadu, Vijay, leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has announced his candidacy for the Trichy East constituency in the upcoming 2026 elections.
The elections are scheduled for April 23, 2026, and Vijay will also contest from Perambur, aiming to boost his chances of winning.
Currently, Trichy East is held by Inigo S Irudayaraj of the DMK, who won the seat in 2021 by a significant margin of 53,797 votes.
In the previous election, AIADMK’s Vellamandi N Natarajan finished second, receiving 40,000 votes, highlighting the competitive nature of this urban-dominated seat.
Vijay, who announced his candidacy as ‘C Joseph Vijay’, is determined to challenge the DMK’s dominance. “It’s only a two-sided fight between we, the people’s team and Stalin sir’s team,” he stated, emphasizing the stakes involved.
Trichy East has a notable Christian voter base, which could play a crucial role in the upcoming elections. Vijay’s party, TVK, was founded in 2024, positioning itself as a fresh alternative to the established parties.
Inigo Irudayaraj’s previous victory in 2021 was marked by a strong performance, and the DMK is fielding RD Sekar again for the Perambur seat, where he won by over 50,000 votes.
Vijay aims to capitalize on the dissatisfaction with the current political climate, asserting, “They say our people have no experience. But those with experience have only used that experience to loot.”
He promises transparency, declaring, “I will not touch even one paisa of the people’s money,” appealing to voters’ concerns over corruption.
As the election date approaches, the dynamics in Trichy East will be closely watched, with Vijay’s dual candidacy potentially reshaping the contest.
The election is poised to be a significant battle between the people’s alliance, TVK, and the Stalin-led DMK, making the outcome crucial for both parties.
