Chief of Army Staff Upendra Dwivedi met with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to discuss strategies for motivating young people to join the armed forces. This meeting comes as Bhopal gears up to host the Indian Army Day parade on January 15, 2026.
The celebrations will kick off on January 9 and will feature a series of events, including ‘Shaurya Sandhya’, military exhibitions, and combat demonstrations. Army Day is an annual observance that commemorates K M Cariappa becoming the first Indian Commander-in-Chief in 1949.
General Dwivedi recently visited the Sudarshan Chakra Corps to assess operational readiness and focus on modern warfare capabilities. His review emphasized mission readiness and battlefield innovations, crucial for the evolving landscape of military operations.
During this visit, General Dwivedi awarded Commendation Cards to selected personnel for their outstanding service, reinforcing the importance of dedication within the ranks.
In a separate engagement, General Dwivedi visited forward areas in the Poonch district to evaluate the operational preparedness of deployed troops. There, he met Subedar Parvez Ahmed, a retired soldier with 28 years of service, who received the Veteran Achiever Award for his contributions to society and support during Operation Sindoor.
This visit highlighted the vital connection between the Indian Army, its veterans, and their communities, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.
As the Indian Army prepares for the upcoming celebrations, the focus remains on inspiring the next generation to consider a career in the armed forces. The events planned for Army Day aim to showcase the valor and commitment of the Indian military.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any additional initiatives that may emerge from the discussions between General Dwivedi and CM Yadav.
