Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the young Indian batting talent, recently attended the Wimbledon 2026 men’s singles final at the iconic All England Club in London. The event saw Jannik Sinner defeat Alexander Zverev with a score of 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2), 6-3, 6-4, securing his second Wimbledon title.
Sooryavanshi, who is 15 years old, was present at Centre Court alongside fellow India opener Abhishek Sharma. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was also among those in attendance. Sooryavanshi’s visit to Wimbledon followed his maiden international series for India, where he made his senior debut in a T20I series against England.
During the T20I series, India experienced a 0-4 defeat in the five-match contest against England. Sooryavanshi’s debut made him India’s youngest international debutant, surpassing a long-standing record, as he was 15 years and 99 days old at the time.
A Memorable Wimbledon Experience
Sooryavanshi’s appearance at Wimbledon marked his first time watching a Grand Slam live. He expressed his excitement about observing how players approach a major final. He noted that he was keen to see how leading tennis players managed the pressure and expectations associated with such a significant match.
The young cricketer also drew attention for his formal attire, which included a black blazer, a white shirt, a striped tie, and tinted sunglasses. This look was a notable change from the Indian jersey and Rajasthan Royals colours that fans are accustomed to seeing him in. Sooryavanshi, however, revealed that his outfit was arranged at the last minute.
He credited Abhishek Sharma for helping him with the ensemble, stating that he asked Abhishek to arrange whatever was available quickly. Sooryavanshi’s comments highlighted the spontaneous nature of his preparation for the event.
This visit to Wimbledon adds to a remarkable period for Sooryavanshi. He earned his first India call-up after a successful IPL 2026 season, where he was the leading run-scorer, amassing 776 runs in 16 matches. He also became the youngest Orange Cap winner, hit a record 72 sixes, and maintained a strike rate of 237.30 during the season.
Tennis Inspirations and Predictions
Despite his rapid rise in cricket, Sooryavanshi shared that he has been following tennis for several years, specifically for the past four or five years. He mentioned that he grew up watching tennis legends Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, with Djokovic eventually becoming his favourite. He stated that he still has a strong admiration for Djokovic.
Sooryavanshi also expressed his liking for Carlos Alcaraz among the current generation of tennis players, though Alcaraz was not participating in this year’s tournament. He was particularly impressed by Jannik Sinner’s dominant performance throughout the tournament and predicted that Sinner would win the final. Sooryavanshi’s prediction proved accurate as Sinner secured the title.
When asked about his choice for a doubles partner in tennis, Sooryavanshi humorously selected Abhishek Sharma. He explained that since Abhishek is his opening partner in international cricket and he enjoys batting with him, he would also choose him as his tennis doubles partner.
The presence of Indian cricketers at Wimbledon this year was notable. Earlier in the week, Sachin Tendulkar and Shubman Gill attended the men’s singles semi-finals. Sooryavanshi’s attendance, alongside Yuvraj Singh, Abhishek Sharma, and Sanju Samson, continued this trend, bringing the spotlight to the next generation of Indian cricketing talent at one of the world’s premier sporting events on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
