The Indian Navy’s Mahendragiri frigate, featuring advanced stealth technology, was officially handed over on May 1, 2026. This event marks a significant milestone in indigenous naval capabilities. The frigate is part of Project 17A and represents a leap forward for India’s naval forces.

  • The Mahendragiri is the sixth and last ship built under Project 17A.
  • It measures 149 meters in length and weighs approximately 6,670 tons.
  • The frigate can reach speeds of up to 28 knots.
  • It can conduct naval operations for up to 45 days at a time.
  • Approximately 75% indigenous content was used in its construction.

The Indian Navy also released the SSR Medical Admit Card for Agniveer recruitment on the same day. The written examination for Agniveer SSR Medical Assistant is set for May 16, 2026. Candidates must have passed Class 12 with specific subjects and pay an application fee of Rs 550 plus GST.

A delegation led by Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi is currently on a goodwill visit to Myanmar until May 6, 2026. This visit aims to strengthen ties between India and Myanmar, enhancing regional cooperation.

The Mahendragiri frigate includes eight BrahMos supersonic anti-ship missiles and advanced anti-submarine warfare systems. This capability enhances India’s maritime defense posture significantly.
