The wider picture
Concerns about LPG supply arose amid geopolitical tensions affecting global energy supply chains. As consumers navigated these uncertainties, rumors began circulating about potential changes to the LPG gas cylinder booking rules.
However, in a decisive move, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed that there have been no alterations to the existing LPG booking rules. This announcement comes as a relief to many, as it clarifies the confusion surrounding the timelines for booking refills.
Under the current rules, consumers with two LPG cylinders can book a gas cylinder after 35 days. For those enrolled in the Ujjwala Yojana, the waiting period extends to 45 days. Additionally, bookings for the 10 kg composite domestic cylinder will be accepted after 18 days.
Single-cylinder households in urban areas can book after 25 days, while those in rural areas face a longer wait of 45 days. These timelines remain unchanged, as emphasized by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, which stated, “The existing refill booking timelines remain unchanged and continue to function under the current time limit.”
Reports claiming revised timelines for LPG bookings are incorrect, according to the Indian Oil Corporation. They reiterated that consumers can book LPG cylinders via phone, SMS, or WhatsApp, maintaining the same processes that have been in place.
Commercial cylinders are supplied only for emergency services and educational institutions, ensuring that essential services are prioritized amid the ongoing energy challenges. The clarity provided by the authorities aims to stabilize consumer confidence in the LPG supply chain.
As the situation evolves, observers will continue to monitor the energy landscape, especially in light of ongoing geopolitical tensions. For now, consumers can rest assured that the current LPG gas cylinder booking rules remain intact, allowing them to plan their refills without disruption.
