By Aarav Reddy — 1 July 2026 — 3 min read

Indian cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is currently touring England with the national squad, a trip that has generated considerable discussion regarding his potential international debut. Despite being included in India‘s T20I squad following a successful IPL campaign, the young player has not yet made his debut for the national team.

Former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara has shared his perspective on Sooryavanshi’s immediate prospects, suggesting that an immediate debut in the T20I series against England is unlikely. Pujara highlighted the importance of the player focusing on his game and keeping external expectations at bay, particularly given the significant attention surrounding his potential debut.

The Indian team management is expected to maintain its established top order, which includes Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan, a combination that contributed to a World Cup victory. This approach suggests that opportunities for new players like Sooryavanshi might arise later in the series, possibly through rotation, once the team has found its rhythm.

Debut Expectations and Team Strategy

Sooryavanshi’s inclusion in the squad came after a notable performance in the IPL 2026 season, where he scored 776 runs with a strike rate of 237. His strong performances also extended to crucial matches, including 97 runs in the IPL Eliminator and 94 runs in Qualifier 2. These contributions caught the attention of selectors, leading to his maiden T20I call-up.

Prior to his T20I squad selection, Sooryavanshi also showcased his form with India A, achieving an 11-ball List A fifty against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla. This performance further underscored his batting prowess and potential.

The current tour of England follows India‘s 0-2 T20I series defeat to Ireland. Despite this setback, the team, led by captain Shreyas Iyer, is focused on starting afresh against England. Iyer has indicated that the team is prioritizing its World Cup-winning combination, emphasizing stability and continuity in the squad.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (Credits: BCCI) Credit: khelnow.com

During a pre-match media interaction, Shreyas Iyer stated that the management is not swayed by external discussions regarding Sooryavanshi’s debut. The focus remains on maintaining a positive team atmosphere and backing players who have consistently performed. This stance suggests that an immediate debut for Sooryavanshi in the first ENG vs IND T20I is considered a remote possibility.

Reports from Revsportz indicate that the team’s net practice sessions have maintained the same batting order as in the previous series, reinforcing the likelihood of no immediate changes to the playing XI. However, Sooryavanshi has been observed receiving one-on-one throwdowns from the team’s specialist, Raghu, specifically working on facing short deliveries.

Experience in English Conditions

Sooryavanshi is not entirely new to playing in English conditions. He previously toured the country with India‘s Under-19 team in 2025. During that one-day series, he emerged as the leading run-scorer, accumulating 355 runs at an average of 71 and a strike rate of 174.

This prior experience could be beneficial for him as he continues to train and integrate with the senior squad. While his debut in the initial matches of the series against England appears unlikely, there remains a possibility that he could feature in later games. The series is significant for India and for captain Shreyas Iyer as they embark on a new chapter under his leadership.

The first ENG vs IND T20I is scheduled to be played at Chester-le-Street.

By Aarav Reddy — 29 June 2026 — 3 min read

Following unexpected losses to Ireland, the Indian cricket team is grappling with how to integrate 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi into the T20 squad for the upcoming series against England. The recent defeats have intensified discussions regarding the team’s selection process.

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has strongly advocated for Sooryavanshi’s inclusion, particularly for the first T20 match against England. He suggested that the young talent could have been picked for both games against Ireland, with openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson rotated.

The Sooryavanshi Conundrum

The question of how to fit Sooryavanshi’s talent into the team has become more pressing. The team management, led by coach Gautam Gambhir, faces a challenge in finding a solution for the five-match T20 series in England, which begins on July 1. The pitches in England are anticipated to be flatter, based on past summer conditions.

Gavaskar emphasized the need to play Sooryavanshi from the first game in England. He stated that the team management should consider dropping out-of-form batters to accommodate the young player. Gavaskar suggested that Sooryavanshi could bat at number three, while keeping both openers, or be integrated in another way, but stressed his inclusion in the first match on July 1 to potentially surprise England.

The public has shown significant interest in Sooryavanshi, with queues forming hours before international games in anticipation of his debut. Despite this, the team management has maintained its adherence to established selection processes. However, the losses to Ireland are expected to prompt a review of these processes.

Reshaping the Batting Line-up

If the team management wishes to retain the opening pair of Samson and Abhishek, other batters, such as Ishan Kishan, might need to adjust their positions in the batting order. A potential new order could see Sooryavanshi at number three, followed by Kishan at four, Shreyas Iyer at five, Tilak Varma at six, Shivam Dube at seven, and Axar Patel at eight. This arrangement assumes that Suryansh Shedge would not play in the first game against England.

Flexibility would be key for batters from numbers five to eight, depending on the match situation and the need for a left-right batting combination. If Shivam Dube bats at number seven, he would likely be expected to bowl four overs regularly, as Abhishek is the only other top-order player who bowls part-time left-arm spin that is considered usable in international matches. Dube’s role as a sixth bowler in the T20 setup presents a challenge.

Indian batters, accustomed to playing on tracks that offer little assistance to bowlers, often rely on an aggressive approach. This can pose problems on pitches with more to offer, where a ‘plan B’ is needed if an all-out attack strategy fails. To include both Samson and Abhishek alongside Sooryavanshi, the team might need to sacrifice either Ishan Kishan or Tilak Varma to ensure a balance of five specialist bowlers and two all-rounders.

One proposed solution involves dropping Samson, despite its potential unpopularity. Samson scored 5 and a first-ball duck in the two games against Ireland, appearing out of sync in conditions that favored bowlers. Integrating Sooryavanshi without disrupting the bowling attack’s balance would require a conversation with Samson, as difficult decisions are often necessary for the team’s broader objectives.

The series loss to Ireland on June 28 has been described as one of the lowest points in Indian cricket history, attributed to overconfidence and casualness rather than exceptional play from the opposition. This series, despite the outcome, was seen as an ideal opportunity to introduce Sooryavanshi to international cricket. The hope is that he will be played in the first game against England in a few days’ time.

The Indian women’s team also experienced a challenging period, losing to Australia and then to South Africa due to poor fielding, which effectively eliminated them from their tournament. These events underscore the importance of learning from experiences, even steep ones, to avoid similar outcomes in the future.

The Indian men’s team will begin their five-match T20 series against England on July 1.

By Aarav Reddy — 29 June 2026 — 3 min read

Former India batter Ambati Rayudu has stated that he was not surprised by India‘s 0-2 T20I series defeat to Ireland. He attributed the loss to inadequate preparation for the challenging conditions encountered after the Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

India, led by Shreyas Iyer, experienced a series whitewash, losing the second T20I by one run in Belfast. Rayudu noted that the team struggled to adapt to the slower, two-paced surfaces in Ireland, a stark contrast to the batting-friendly pitches typically seen in the IPL.

Rayudu, who played 55 ODIs and six T20Is for India, explained that transitioning from flat tracks to spongy wickets with lateral movement is always difficult. He observed that many players are accustomed to fast bat-swings, and the control of the down-swing becomes a significant concern on different surfaces.

Tilak Varma’s Batting Challenges

Ambati Rayudu specifically pointed out areas where India vice-captain Tilak Varma needs to improve, despite his score of 55 in the second T20I. Rayudu highlighted that Varma’s game against slow bowling on slow surfaces has been a struggle for some time.

According to Rayudu, Varma faces difficulties in increasing the tempo when the ball does not come onto the bat. He suggested that Varma’s reluctance to use his feet against spin bowling limits his scoring options, particularly on slower tracks. Rayudu mentioned that Varma prefers to access the square boundaries, which requires the ball to come on well to the bat.

Rayudu also noted that Varma does not sweep on the pitch of the ball and does not play many shots in a conventional manner. He believes that if Varma improves this aspect of his game, raising the tempo will naturally follow as a by-product.

The former batter stressed that Varma needs time to develop this part of his game. He added that Indian players often do not get sufficient time between series to work on their batting, which can lead to struggles in adapting to varying conditions.

Patience Advised for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Regarding the discussion surrounding batting talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ambati Rayudu advised against rushing him into the national side. Sooryavanshi was not included in either of the matches against Ireland.

Rayudu emphasised the importance of giving seasoned openers, who have performed well and won the World Cup, ample opportunities. He believes that Sooryavanshi is currently gaining valuable experience by being part of the Indian team dressing room, learning about expectations and his potential role.

He stated that these experiences on tour will ultimately help the youngster. However, Rayudu would not rush Sooryavanshi into a bilateral series simply because India lost a couple of games.

Sooryavanshi is anticipated to make his debut at some point during the ongoing tour of the UK. The tour is set to continue with T20Is in England starting on July 1.

Looking Ahead to England Series

Despite India‘s disappointing results against Ireland, Ambati Rayudu is not overly concerned about the upcoming five-match T20I series against England. He believes that the conditions in England will present a different challenge.

Rayudu suggested that the pitches in England are far better than those encountered in Ireland, which he expects will be more suitable for India‘s batting style. The first T20I against England is scheduled for a future date.

India Prepares for Crucial Australia Clash

India is set to face Australia in a pivotal match at Lord’s in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The Indian team will know the exact requirements for securing a semi-final spot before their game, as South Africa will play Bangladesh earlier at the same venue. Currently, Australia leads Group A with eight points, while India and South Africa are two points behind. India holds an advantage over South Africa due to a superior net run rate.

Smriti Mandhana, India’s opener, expressed confidence that the gap between the two teams has narrowed. She cited the experience gained by Indian players participating in leagues like the Big Bash and the WPL as a contributing factor. Mandhana believes that the consistent performance of the Indian team over the past five years has steadily closed this gap, making T20 cricket a contest where the team having a good day will likely win.

Mandhana highlighted the team’s commitment to playing an aggressive brand of cricket. She also reflected on past encounters, noting that games against Australia are always competitive. India previously defeated Australia 2-1 in a bilateral T20 series in February, and Mandhana is looking forward to renewing this rivalry. She emphasised the importance of focusing on playing the ball rather than the match situation.

Australia’s Strength and India’s Challenge

Australia, a six-time champion, is expected to be at full strength for the upcoming match. Captain Sophie Molineux confirmed the return of Phoebe Litchfield, who had been out injured for three games. Additionally, Beth Mooney is fit to play despite dislocating her finger twice during her side’s 113-run victory over Pakistan. Molineux noted Litchfield’s full training participation and Mooney’s resilience, indicating their readiness for the match.

Molineux acknowledged the pressure on India and expressed her team’s intent to capitalise on it early in the game. She anticipates an intense match, especially with a sold-out crowd, underscoring the significance of the occasion. Australia’s semi-final place could potentially be confirmed before they even play, yet they remain focused on winning to secure their desired finishing position in the group.

The Australian side is considered one of the most complete teams in the tournament, known for their aggressive approach. They have a history of responding strongly after defeats, such as whitewashing India in a three-match series after being knocked out in an ODI World Cup semi-final. Despite their strong form, Australia is aware that India has provided tough competition recently.

For India, securing a semi-final spot will be challenging, particularly if South Africa wins against Bangladesh. While Australia boasts a strong lineup of all-rounders, India has relied heavily on players like Deepti Sharma. The team’s batting depth beyond key players like Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Jemimah Rodrigues has been a point of discussion. Rodrigues, who helped India overcome a mini-crisis against Bangladesh, has regained her form.

Despite some issues with catching, the Indian team is considered strong and experienced enough to manage these challenges. Their batting firepower is seen as capable of troubling even Australia’s strong bowling attack. The match on Sunday at Lord’s will be a crucial encounter for both teams.

Key Players and Match Dynamics

The return of Phoebe Litchfield strengthens Australia’s side. Litchfield had not played since sustaining an injury in the first match against South Africa, where she scored 50 runs from 24 balls. Her recovery adds to Australia’s formidable lineup.

For India, the performance of their top batters will be critical. Mandhana, Verma, Kaur, and Rodrigues are expected to lead the charge against Australia’s bowling attack. The match is anticipated to be a high-stakes affair, with both teams vying for a strong position in the tournament.

The contest between India and Australia has been marked by intense rivalry, with both teams delivering memorable performances in the past. This upcoming match is expected to continue that trend, with a significant crowd presence at Lord’s on Sunday.

The match is scheduled to take place at Lord’s at 14:30 local time on Sunday.

By Aarav Reddy — 26 June 2026 — 3 min read

Ireland’s Historic Triumph

Ireland achieved a significant milestone in cricket history by securing their first-ever victory against India, the reigning T20 world champions. The win occurred in the opening match of the T20I series held in Belfast on Friday. This marks the first time Ireland has triumphed over India across all formats of the game.

The hosts clinched a 34-run victory, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The match saw Ireland successfully defend their total after posting an impressive score against a formidable Indian batting lineup.

Irish Innings and Key Performances

Opting to bat first, Ireland faced an early challenge, recovering from 3/30. However, captain Lorcan Tucker played a pivotal role, scoring a half-century (50 runs off 36 balls). He was ably supported by Gareth Delany, who contributed 49 runs off 32 balls. The Irish batters accelerated their scoring in the later overs, amassing 46 runs in two overs during the 16th and 17th overs.

Tucker’s innings included aggressive play, particularly against left-arm spinner Axar Patel in the 13th over, where he hit 4, 4, 6, and reached his fifty in 35 balls. He also executed a scoop shot for a boundary off Prasidh Krishna. Delany was particularly impactful in his final over against Prasidh, hitting 4, 6, 6, 6 to take 27 runs from the 16th over.

For India, Harshit Rana was the standout bowler, finishing with figures of 3/24, having dismissed both Irish openers. Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel each claimed two wickets. Matt Hollard and Matthew Humphreys were instrumental for Ireland, both securing three-wicket hauls. Debutant Jai Moondra also had a memorable outing, taking 2/25 in his four overs.

The Indian quicks, including Harshit Rana, focused on hard lengths rather than searching for swing, a strategy that initially limited Ireland’s scoring. In the power play, India managed to take the wickets of Tim Tector, Harry Tector, and Ross Adair, reducing the home side to 30 for three. Tim Tector and Ross Adair fell to Rana, while Harry Tector was caught off Arshdeep Singh’s bowling.

Tucker and Ben Calitz then formed a partnership, with Tucker scoring 64 runs for the fifth wicket to stabilise the innings. Later, Delany and George Dockrell added 49 runs between overs 14.3 and 17.1, pushing Ireland’s total past 150.

India’s Chase and Irish Bowling Dominance

Chasing a target of 183 runs, India’s renowned batting lineup struggled under pressure and was eventually dismissed for 148 runs in 18.5 overs. Despite Abhishek Sharma’s aggressive knock of 49 runs off just 20 balls, the team fell short. Sharma’s innings included punishing Liam McCarthy for four boundaries in the third over.

India scored 68 runs in the power play but had lost three wickets during this period. Debutant pacer Jai Moondra inflicted the first blow for Ireland, dismissing Sanju Samson. Matt Hollard (3/28) also played a crucial role, taking the wicket of Ishan Kishan, who was caught by Lorcan Tucker. Shreyas Iyer’s first match as India’s full-time T20 skipper ended disappointingly, as he was caught in the deep off Hollard’s bowling.

The Irish bowlers maintained exemplary lengths on a pacy pitch, capitalising on the Indian batters’ impatience. Matthew Humphreys and Matt Hollard were particularly effective, with Humphreys taking the final wicket of Arshdeep Singh, which led to joyous celebrations within the Irish camp.

Notably, teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, called up to the India squad for the first time, was not part of the playing XI. India opted to stick with their opening pair from their previous ICC Men’s T20 World Cup win. The two teams are scheduled to meet again for the second and final T20I on Sunday.

A nationwide test of the Cell Broadcast Alert System will occur on May 2, 2026, across India. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) aims to enhance emergency alerts and disaster management capabilities.

Key details:

The test will send mobile notifications to users in Delhi NCR and all state and Union Territory capitals.

Alerts may include a loud siren-like sound or vibration, even if phones are on silent mode.

The Cell Broadcast System allows authorities to send messages to all mobile devices within a specific geographic area without individual phone numbers.

The system delivers messages instantly and is unaffected by network congestion. The test evaluates system performance, device compatibility, and multilingual delivery across telecom networks.

The alerts will be sent between 11:15 am and 12:15 pm in Andhra Pradesh’s capital region. Citizens are advised not to panic upon receiving the test message.

States with upcoming elections or those sharing borders with neighboring countries will be exempt from the test. This initiative is part of India’s broader push to improve real-time disaster response.

The alert message will indicate it is a test alert, requiring no action from the public after receipt.

Heavy rainfall is also forecasted, particularly in the Northeast states, where an orange alert has been issued. The IMD has warned residents to stay vigilant due to potential flooding.
